If You’re Feeling Sick, Hit the Kitchen Before Going to the Doctor

Hey everyone! As I was sitting on the sofa enjoying a nice cup of herbal tea, I recalled something from last summer that I thought I’d share with all of you. It’s kinda appropriate since this summer is approaching rather quickly. Maybe it will help you out too!

I Caught Something

It was the summer of 2016, and I was rather busy! The weather was surprisingly nice on most days, so I was mostly out enjoying. I went to a bunch of health meetups and cons. I also did a fair share of gardening (because growing your own veggies is 100 times healthier).

Between all the door-handle-grabbing, hand-shaking, and dirt digging, I somehow or other introduced that one bug into my body that my immune system couldn’t handle. And I got sick. It was some sort of respiratory infection without fever. Just headaches, lots of sneezing and coughing, and a general sense of yuck.

How the Kitchen Can Be a Better Doctor Than Your GP!

Striving for a holistic lifestyle, I researched some ways to cure my cold or flu or whatever. I found some really useful stuff:

Vinegar kills bacteria, fungi, and select viruses. Its acetic acid is the key – it’s something germs can’t stand, but your body loves. In fact, diabetics have better blood sugar control after taking a teaspoon or so of vinegar. Vinegar’s acetic acid also helps cleanse your digestive system. So if you drink vinegar, it’s not only good for your body, but fights germs in your tummy too. You can also use it as a wound disinfectant. Sadly, I’m not sure vinegar is good for respiratory infections.

Oregano oil is a potent antivral agent – especially against the norovirus. But researchers say it’s mostly good for disinfecting external stuff than cleansing you internally. People use oregano oil to clean their house (vinegar too). It wouldn’t have helped my respiratory infection either, probably.

Manuka honey is one of the best holistic remedies you can buy. It can act like normal honey that you put on bread. But it’s also a super antibiotic with antiviral and antifungal properties! The key is its methylglyoxal, which has miraculous properties. Doctors actually use it to help heal burns and wounds, but also in cancer therapy. It actually helps shrink tumors! They also say it’s great for acne because it lowers inflammation if you dab some on a zit. Best of all, it helps treat nose, ear, and eye infections! This was what I needed!

I took a few spoonfuls of manuka honey and blended it into warm lemon water. As I was drinking it, my sinuses cleared immediately and I could already feel myself breathing easier. I drank the tea a few more times during the day – and I swear that’s what helped my body rid that bug faster! The next day I was right as rain!

The great part is that manuka honey doesn’t expire, so I still have some in the fridge from last summer. It’s like a yummy first aid thingy that’s tucked in the fridge, disguised as a tasty sandwich condiment. Oh, and it can also help lower inflammation if you have Celiac’s, IBD, IBS, or related gastrointestinal condition – so the tea will help with that too.

So here I am drinking herbal tea, remembering the time I drank manuka honey lemon tea to cure my respiratory infection last summer. It’s quite interesting how life can draw parallels like that.

It’s even more interesting that the cheapest and simplest of nature’s offerings can cure something that a doctor would prescribe $50+ priced medications for. And chances are – his antibiotics can’t fight viruses because they’re only good for bacteria. But he’ll prescribe you them anyway to ward off any unwanted bacterial opportunistic infections. Why not just take these natural remedies because they can fight off both bacteria and viruses?

Of course I shouldn’t have to say this, but you obviously shouldn’t turn to these natural antibiotics if you’re dealing with a serious medical emergency. I mean, if you have an infection so bad that it’s gangrene, then you need to see your doctor for emergency medical intervention, right!? Although some health gurus will swear they’ve cured serious infections like that and more with natural remedies – I’m going to say see your doctor instead. It’s better to be safe than sorry, right?
