Earthing: How Mother Earth Heals Us Physically

Bon jovi everyone! Did you know that coming into direct contact with the earth can physically heal your body? It’s not just a spiritual exercise – but researchers have proven it really does benefit your body if you do it regularly.

Today I had a little more fun than I usually do. I went on a picnic with some friends at a nearby hiking trail. Unfortunately, despite the warm weather we’ve been enjoying this week, it was pretty cold out! That didn’t ruin it too much for us, though. We did some exploring and even flew a kite! Of course, we made sure to get some higher intensity exercise in and went for a jog.

But we were all wearing sneakers the whole time – and this actually makes a negative difference that I didn’t know about until we all sat down on the blanket for lunch. I could immediately feel the soreness in my legs going away. It was weird, usually it takes a lot longer before my legs calm down after a nice jog or run.

It wasn’t until I got home and did some research that I found out what happened.

What Is Earthing and Is It Legit?

So I found this thing called “Earthing.” It’s when you stand barefoot on the ground. It can’t be on pavement, cement, or inside your home or a building. You have to be standing on ground that connects to the earth directly, like soil, natural grass, the shore, and etc.. Spiritualists call it connecting with Mother Earth and grounding your spirit. Sounds kooky right?

Well, scientists, doctors, and experts are now backing up these earthing claims. Some studies attached monitors to participants to gauge electrical voltage. They found that participants who ran barefoot had a lower overall electrical voltage charge than those who didn’t. They explained that when you exercise, your body generates more free radicals, which have a larger electrical charge. (As you know, free radicals are bad for you because they can destroy your cells and lead to many diseases and increased signs of aging.)

These researchers found that when your body makes contact with the earth, its natural electrons flow into your body to neutralize the abnormal positive charge – which means they neutralizes the free radicals. When researchers at the National Institutes of Health furthered these earthing studies with months-long trials, they found that participants who regularly did earthing experienced lower blood pressure, and decreased risks of diabetes, cancer, and many other diseases. They also slept better at night.

But Is Earthing Safe?

We walk on the earth everyday right? Isn’t that earthing? No – it’s just like when I was jogging with my friends on the trail – if you’re wearing footwear with rubber bottoms, it blocks the earth’s healing electrons from flowing into your body.

But standing on soil is dangerous, right? If you’re a health nut like me, you’ve probably read or heard about those scary parasitic worms that can crawl through your soles (pun intended!) and enter your bloodstream.

The solution is to buy footwear that’s electricity-friendly! You can buy special earthing shoes – but I’m sure the price tag isn’t worth it. Whenever you buy specialty shoes, they make sure to up the price because of their “specialization.” All you really need are shoes that don’t block electron flow – like wooden or cloth-based shoes. I’m sure you’ve already got something in mind – like wooden sandals or something. But remember that if you’re going to run in these footwear, they can’t be flip flops or something that doesn’t provide sufficient foot support.

What’s My Take on Earthing?

I think it’s eye-opening. You may not believe the science (because science requires belief, right?). But the science convinced me to go for it everyday. It really makes so much sense – since ancient times we walked the earth barefoot. Our bodies were designed to be in constant contact with the earth. So no matter what activities we did, the earth always supported us with its electrons to keep us safe from detrimental overcharging.

But then we ignorantly started wearing shoes, started living indoors, started paving roads, and building unnatural cities. I’m not saying these are bad things – but we just didn’t realize that we’ve been increasingly isolating ourselves from the earth. Now that I know what earthing is, it seems so scary that we cut ourselves off from such a healing source! Think about it – you wake up and walk around in your house where your body can’t make contact with the earth, then you leave your house wearing shoes, then you go to work where you’re again cut off from the earth. You could spend the whole day without physically making direct contact with the planet’s ground, where you live!

I think cutting ourselves off from the earth is partly why cancer, insomnia, heart problems, diabetes, and other diseases became more prevalent.

It’s going to be hard to convince people (despite actual studies) that they need to touch the earth at least a few minutes per day. I tried talking to my atheist friends about it, but they laughed it off (again, even though I showed them research).

I guess it’s kinda hard to believe? What, touching the earth can heal you? Unfortunately, I guess only scientists might buy it – but then again, they might not! It just goes to show you the nature of science and religion – most times, science is a religion in it of itself.
